When we start out as artists we do not get told how important the “people” side of this business is. We’re told to network and connect with little understanding of that beyond going to conferences and adding people on LinkedIn.
I work with social media so here’s an easy way to build the framework to make people want to talk to you. 1 - Set your banner to the posters of the movies you’ve worked on, or clients you’ve worked with. If you can’t because you lack experience, see last point.2 - Post relentlessly about: A - Break downs of your experience of past projects you’ve worked on. B - Problems you’re solving in personal projects
3 - Build authenticity by simply adding a voice over to your videos explaining what the viewer is seeing. This is a new trend that will explode trust for artists on LinkedIn.
All in all - the more you show your thinking and the “why” behind your process, the more people trust you. The “likes” will go down, but your authority and relatability will go up.Authority gets people to reach out. People reaching out expands your network (if you engage)An expanded network = opportunities to get paid
